It's Spring 'Remember your Car too!

July 17, 2024

Spring is on the rise, and as winter says her goodbyes, it's time to give your car a good spring clean, much as you would your own house. It's time to clean out the clutter, dust, and dirt that finds its way into all the little recesses within the confines of your car, from the interior to the exterior and under the hood!

TIPS FOR KEEPING YOUR CAR IN TIP-TOP SHAPE.

  1. Give the exterior of your car a suitable soap wash to remove dirt, grime, road salt, and tar it has picked up on its winter travels; either do it yourself, which can be fun or if you feel inclined, take it through a reputable car wash or professional detailer.
  2. Check for any scratches on your car's body, which you could touch up with some matching paint color, which you can purchase from a local auto shop.
  3. If your car appears dull after the winter, then now is an excellent time to cut and polish the paintwork, with a final buff to bring back its sparkle and shine. You could do this yourself or seek out a professional car detailer.
  4. Check under the hood, which is a frequently neglected area; I suggest spraying the engine with some grease and dirt remover before hosing away the residue accumulated through the winter; either do it yourself or employ a professional to steam clean the engine. While cleaning up the engine, check under your car's chassis and in the wheel hubs to wash away any dirt and debris that may have become stuck or wedged there.
  5. Give the interior a good going over, and remove all trash from under the dash, in the glove compartment, under the seats, or in other places trash seems to congregate.
  6. The interior needs a good vacuum cleaning, ensuring you get into all the tricky corners and dark places. If you find any grime or stains on the upholstery, I recommend using a foaming fabric cleaner or your favorite fabric stain remover.
  7. Remember to clean your floor mats before placing them back in the car or replace them if they look a bit worse for wear.
  8. Check your window wipers because, after the winter, they will likely need replacing, which is something that you can do yourself or bring your car into a reputable auto repair and service shop.
  9. Check and top up all the fluids in the car, window wiper fluid, engine oil, radiator, and brake fluids, because you certainly wouldn't want any to run out while underway.
  10. Make sure you have your roadside safety equipment up to date, such as tire changing tools and spare tire; make sure your tire pressure is what is at the recommended PSI ( pounds per square inch) and your tire tread is not too

It's summertime, and we are ready for a clean, shiny car to cruise the streets in. Here are some DIY auto detailing tips to get your car looking great again! Let's start with the leather If you have leather upholstery, buy a leather-cleaning kit and keep it in the vehicle. When you clean the oops and spills right away, you dramatically increase your chances of a complete cleanup without signs of an accident. If you wait, lipstick, ink, dye, and lipstick transfer from clothing (and plastic shopping bags) and can become permanent in as little as 24 hours. Pretreat your leather with a conditioner before you start the stain removal process. Wipe the leather down with a pre-treater, and then apply leather cleaner and the leather protection cream. Lubricate your hood hinges Before applying grease or oil, be sure to wipe down the hinges first. We recommend white lithium grease or a few drops of any ordinary motor oil. Move the hinge several times to work the grease in. and work it into both sides of each hinge. Once you are done, wipe away any excess to keep it from collecting debris.

It is common knowledge that before your kiddo can step onto the field, they have to get to a doctor for a sports check-up. Your car needs a similar check-up from your local mechanic shop. This can easily catch and prevent an issue before it grows into a big expensive one. We encourage you to schedule your car in for a professional inspection 3 times per year. Preventive maintenance gives you peace of mind; it also can save you thousands of dollars in repairs when a professional catches an issue early. The professional Auto Mechanics at Foothill Auto Service are trained to detect warning signs, preventing a small issue from snowballing into a large and expensive one. If you are looking to build a relationship with an auto mechanic, it is time to meet the friendly folks at Foothill Auto Service. When you have a mechanic shop familiar with your vehicle and is already in their system, you have a team you can turn to for all questions and concerns. Do you love to tinker? We have a few tips for items to check yourself to help keep your car in good condition. Replacing your cabin air filter regularly washing your vehicle changing out your wiper blades If you are handy and ambitious, other maintenance tasks are also necessary. Oil changes Belt, and hose replacements Tire rotations Battery inspections Most often, it is best to leave this to the professionals, as they not only have a trained eye to detect any anomalies, they also have proper equipment, and document any wear and tear that they see, and also keep their eye out for other issues arising in the future.
